Back in 2019, we couldn’t stand each other. Seriously. Fast forward to 2023, after one too many drinks at our friend’s Henna night, I made my grand exit… without saying goodbye to Rami. A few hours later, I get a message from him: “You really just left without saying bye?!” One text turned into another, and suddenly, we found ourselves laughing at how ridiculous we’d been. Fast forward a bit more, and here we are — planning a wedding! Funny how sometimes, the best things start after a few awkward moments.
So, here’s the thing — I almost ruined my own proposal. Rami had planned a sunset dinner at the 360 Restaurant at the CN Tower, but I was determined to make it as difficult as possible to get me there. First, I tried to cancel because my brother’s flight was delayed and wasn’t landing until 2 AM. Classic, right? But he was very persistent and managed to get me to the 360 Restaurant at the CN Tower for a sunset dinner — what I thought was just a nice evening out. But I was about to make a major blunder. We’re sitting there enjoying the view when the manager comes over and asks if we’ve chosen a wine bottle yet. He offers to take us to the wine cellar to pick one out. Without skipping a beat, I turn to Rami and say, “You can go choose one yourself, I’ll just wait here at the table.” Little did I know, Rami had been planning to propose in that very wine cellar, on one knee, with a bottle of wine as the backdrop. Instead, I was casually sending him off to go alone, completely oblivious to what was about to happen. But he was persistent. Instead of letting me off the hook, he took me down there anyway — and, in the middle of all the wine bottles, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. And that’s how Rami pulled off the perfect proposal — even when I was doing everything I could to not make it happen.
