Traverse City
Why Traverse City? Welcome to the Cherry Capital of the World. Traverse city is a small-medium sized city located in the northern portion of Michigan, about 2 hours south of the transition to the upper peninsula of the state. It is known for it's natural attractions, such as fresh water beaches, vineyards, wineries, farm-to-table restaurants and proximity to the Sleeping Bear Dunes national lakeshore. Emilie and I spent many summers vacationing in Traverse City and the surrounding towns. Hiking, kayaking, biking, wining, dining, and so much more are at your disposal. You will be visiting during the busiest, but most exciting time of the year. We hope you get a chance to see how special this city is and why we love visiting so much. National Cherry Festival
Renowned annual cherry festival that takes place in Traverse City. From farmers markets to pie eating contests, carnivals, and shows. We recommend viewing the website for a list of events and schedule.
Wine Tasting and Tours
There are so many amazing wineries along the Old Mission Peninsula with beautiful views. Some of our favorites include Bonobos, Chateau Chantal, and Black Star Farms.
Pirate's Cove Adventure Park
Our family is a habitual member of the Pirate's Cove club. Great putt-putt courses as well as go-carts and bumper boats. Loads of fun for all ages.
Empire Bluff Trail
1.5 mile moderate hike that ends in the most stunning view of Lake Michigan. The trail ends at a wooden boardwalk where you can continue to walk along the water.
Downtown Traverse City
There are so many restaurants, shops, cafes, and a theater all along this main street. Highly recommend stopping by Cherry Republic for free samples and all things cherry.
Hop Lot Brewing Co. & Beer Garden
Outdoor beer garden with local drafts, live music, food, and easy going atmosphere.
The Little Fleet
Eclectic mix of food trucks with spacious outdoor seating and drinks. Great for an on-the-go meal that won't break the bank.
Sleeping Bear Dunes Overlook
Little bit of a drive but beautiful national park in Northern Michigan. If you want a killer calf workout we recommend hiking up and down Pierce Stocking Point. The views there are stunning.
Outdoors Activities
There are a ton of outdoor activities in the area such as biking, kayaking, paddle boarding, boating, fishing, tennis, pickleball, golfing, and so much more. There are many local rental shops but if you want any specific recommendations please let us know!
