June 19th 2020 was a day to remember for Taylor and me. The day before did not go so well, that’s when I took my sweetheart Taylor, out on the boat for a nice cruise. Lake Lanier is known for its magnificent views, cliff hanging mansions, and pristine fishing adventures. We were going to out to just relax in the sun and splash around in the water. We decided to head to lunch which was about a 30 min boat ride across the lake to a nice restaurant. On the way, the engine kept stalling and we kept creeping to an inevitable stop. We were stuck out in the middle of the lake with a broken engine that was incapable of generating any power for propulsion. The plan was to inconspicuously propose the next day by using the boat to travel to an isolated area of the lake. With the boat being out of commission I honestly had no idea how I was going to do it! Luckily for us, we called a repairman to fix the boat and he figured it out and completed the task at hand. My fortune had changed, and Taylor had no idea what I was about to do. We got on the boat, accompanied by my brother John the next day. John did a superb job by not giving anything away and by being there to film this great moment in our lives. We traveled north for about 45 minutes to a spot in the lake I had personally never been. Besides the gray skies, the moment was right. Taylor had no idea what I was about to do. She was floating in the water, so I grabbed the ring and jumped in the lake. Who would jump in a lake with an engagement ring you ask? I, Spencer O’Bryan, had the courage to do that. I couldn’t get on a knee because I was trying to stay afloat when I asked Taylor. She put her hand over her mouth and the rest is history. She paused for an eternity, and said yes.
