Traveling to San Jose offers several different food locations! On route to San Jose, there is a rest stop at the halfway point called Kettleman City. There you will find three gas stations, and a Tesla super-charging station. The last time Josh and Emily traveled in the same car, they got stuck for an hour in line at In-n-Out and left empty handed! (It was Thanksgiving weekend so that was on them) Note: the In-n-Out and Denny's have clean restrooms. We highly recommend if you stop for restrooms, do not use the gas stations' there but use the restaurants facilities.
If you go passed Kettleman City, you will see many advertisements for this establishment. While Josh and Emily have not attended together, a family favorite as well as a classic, California travel staple, is Harris Ranch Restaurant! There you will find incredible steaks and meats that have charmed the Nelms' and Noceti's on several occasions--in fact, we heard Nana and Papa have driven hours just to go here! Note: Clean, safe restrooms
This is a gas station passed Kettleman City that has safe and clean restrooms and great gas prices. NOTE: They do random checks on cards to be sure you actually have money in your account to pay for gas. If you get a different charge than what you paid, go into the cashier and they will explain it to you. Emily was one of those random checkers and it worked out fine. Current prices are: Diesel $4.89, Regular $4.30, Midgrade $4.60 Premium $4.90
While driving through Pechaco Pass, you will see dozens of fruit stands! Some offering Pistachios, Garlic pistachios, Garlic, Garlic Ice Cream, Cherries, and the famous 6 avocados for 1$ signs. Please feel free to stop at any of the stands and support the farmers. The couple is always in a hurry to see each other and are rarely in the same car so they haven't stopped at any yet, but have heard wonderful things!
If you have a Costco membership, here is a gas option on the way to San Jose! This stop is only an hour away from the venue. Perfect for filling up for the drive there or topping off for the drive back.
Best Experience: Although Shell gas is expensive, the Shell gas station in Gilroy right before the 280 has always been kind to Emily and her travel buddies. There is also a farmers market available next to the gas station in the mornings. (TRAVEL TIP! When driving through Gilroy, roll down your windows and smell the air--the whole town is roasting Garlic! By far, Emily's favorite part of the drive) Prices: Diesel $5.50 Regular $5.10 Midgrade $5.30 Premium $5.40
You made it to NorCal!!! If you know Emily, you know she adores these bagels. Did you know they were rated the best in America? Yes, beating even NYC....don't believe us? Why don't you give them a try. Emily recommends the Classic on an Eggything or Sesame bagel, toasted.
Walking in--you will completely melt at the scent of brown sugar and boba. It is the most amazing scent on the PLANET!
