Flights are available direct from the north-east US from around the 500s! Google Flights has always proven to be the best place to search for flights and set pricing alerts. A few things: -The cheapest direct options are from NYC in the 400-500s. If you can manage a cheap way there, that is by far is most budget conscious option! -There are a few direct (or single-stop) flights from Dulles/BWI that bounce from 600s to 1000, so set a price tracker. -Prices tend to dip mid-week! -The British LOVE Portugal and there are often great deals from London. The same applies to Barcelona and Frankfurt. If you happen to see cheap fares to those cities, a follow-on connection may be worth investigating.
