Chowkas started working at Uber Eats first, and would work late into the night to figure out how to make Uber Eats work in DC area markets. Nancy started working in the same office not long after, and as the second-to-last person in the office most nights, would say good-bye to Chowkas on her way out. Other than that, we didn't interact much at first. We started to become friends as part of a larger crew in the Uber DC office. Then, after the Uber holiday party in December 2017 and much to Nancy's surprise, Chowkas worked up the courage to share his feelings for Nancy. Nancy suggested he could start by asking her out to dinner, and the rest is history!

After spending the majority of 2020 apart and outside of NYC because of COVID, we were looking forward to taking a trip to Maine's Acadia National Park in August. Early in the trip, we'd planned for a sunrise hike at the top of Cadillac Mountain, the highest peak in the park. As we drove to the trailhead at 4:45am, Chowkas was talking up a storm (which should have been Nancy's first signal that something was up...). Chowkas directed us to a very specific spot to see the sunrise, and after Nancy joked that it would be a perfect place for a proposal (clearly Nancy had no idea what Chowkas was up to), Chowkas started to say all the nice things! Finally, Nancy realized Chowkas was trying to propose and stood up so that Chowkas could "kneel properly." After very quickly saying "Yes!", Chowkas surprised Nancy with the arrival of two dear friends (Yvonne & Sahil), who joined us in celebrating the day with a long hike and an evening in Bar Harbor, Maine. Acadia will always have a special place in our hearts!
