On June 7, 2018, Jasmine and Derek met at a grand opening for a clothing boutique in Brookwood Mall. Derek was the DJ and Jasmine performed one of her spoken word pieces. She glanced at him a few times because he was so fine! But she knew she wasn't ready for a relationship. However she had just begun trying to enhance her networking skills, so she approached him after the event. They talked for a while about music and them possibly working together. A connection was made and they exchanged contact information. Derek found her very attractive and was drawn to her smile and personality. He reached out to her a few times but she didn't really respond the way he'd hoped. Her messages were short and to the point. After a few of those, he stopped contacting her. He continued to live his life but felt deeply that she was the one for him. Jasmine continued to grow through life and pray that the Lord's will be done when it came to her heart. It amazed her that they hadn't talked at all, but every time she thought about working with someone to put her words to music, his name was brought to the forefront of her mind. She hadn't searched for him or seen him out and they hadn't talked. However his name and the ease she felt when initially talking with him never parted from her memory. That was the work of the Lord. So over 1 year later she contacted him to meet for a business lunch at T-bones. The conversation was easy and fluid, and eventually led to him challenging her to competitive games at Woolworth. They both talked smack about who would win. Derek won. Now, you are witnessing the product of their prayers and persistence to growth in unity through the Lord.
Wow! We are getting married! Proposal night was THE most magical night, but it started with some bumps and bruises...LITERALLY! LOL Once Derek knew that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Jasmine, the planning began. He planned a trip to Florida for the two of them with the thought to propose romantically on the beach. However he later decided to include her family and friends in the proposal, so he had to find a way to get her to the set location. They still went to Florida, but he told her that they would be attending a Kappa Ball when they returned home. Jasmine was excited to get dolled up and stand by his side, and she did not take it lightly. She laid out a beautiful red dress to wear, gathered all of her accessories, and headed to get her makeup done. While there, Derek was picking up the ring that he had been waiting to arrive for about a month. Jasmine decided to get dressed at his place for time sake, and on the way her nail broke. She got it fixed 15min before the shop closed, and just in time to make it to the ball. When she arrived to his place and opened her bag, she couldn't find her dress. She snuck to the car because she didn't want him to know that she may have left it, and as she was walking up the steps she tripped. She scraped her foot and looked down to find it bleeding...AND the dress wasn't in the car. He was very patient and understanding. He actually told her that she could wear what she had on, which was a sweater and some leggings. NOT! She rushed home to get the dress and told him that she would meet him at the spot. She pulled up to The Above, her favorite rooftop lounge that overlooks the city. Only their friends and family were there, and he spoke the sweetest words to her. Everything that happened prior faded away. She barely felt the pain in her foot anymore...lol. Derek and Jasmine followed as the Lord led their hearts to be placed into each others' hands. He answered their prayers. Derek asked and SHE SAID YES!
