Mary-Kate and Evan connected through Bumble and decided to plan their first date, a tennis match, at Narberth Park—the perfect midpoint between our apartments. Both thought the other would be terrible at tennis, so they prepared for the worst date ever. As they chatted during warm ups, it became clear they were both serious about tennis, sports, and winning. Game on. They played the game of their lives on that unusually warm March evening. Evan had an unreal lefty serve and Mary-Kate's forehand had topspin power no one could prepare for. In the end, Evan won by one game. Mary-Kate was impressed... but she was also aware that she may have been dancing a little too much due to the Lizzo songs blasting from the Zumba class just a few yards away. Plus, he was sooo00ooo handsome, such a gentleman and she had never met anyone from North Dakota before. It was like meeting a prince from a foreign land. She had so. many. QUESTIONS. Luckily, after the extremely intense match, they had time to meander around the park and talk some more on a pair of swings. By the end of the night, they agreed to go on a second date that weekend. After that date, they agreed on a third. Then a fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh. Until they just never stopped. Even today, after I finish writing this we're going to play tennis at the college courts next to our townhouse! See you at the wedding!!!!!!
Mary-Kate had always been open about her dream proposal. She had 2 requests: that it take place outside and that there was a photograph from really far away. So when Evan stumbled upon Morris Arboretum, the official arboretum of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania filled with the most fantastic native and exotic trees, he knew: this is where he would ask the love of his life to marry him. On a sunny Sunday morning, April 23rd, at 11:00am, Evan, Mary-Kate + their friends Liz and Leah, arrived at the beautiful and lush tree gardens. Evan stashed the ring box in his pocket and secretly passed a disposable camera to Leah. Mary-Kate was clueless, skipping along the rows of trees asking everyone, "Do they do weddings here?" Tension only grew as the day wore on and Evan searched for the perfect spot within the perfect place. When would he pop the question? Finally, Evan gave Liz and Leah the signal. They snuck down a stone staircase and hid in the bushes with the old camera aimed in perfect position. With a trembling voice, Evan got down on one knee and poured his heart out. The prepared speech vanished from his mind, but the sincerity of his feelings shone through. Mary-Kate knelt down beside Evan and said yes before he slid the ring onto her finger. After the proposal, they descended the stone staircase to rejoin Liz and Leah, who had captured the moment through photos and videos. It wouldn't have felt complete without sharing the excitement with those who had been part of the experience. And Evan and Mary-Kate were so excited to start sharing the news, photos, videos, and story with their families and friends.
