The Wedding Website of Sara DePasquale and Bryan Engle
We're excited to share some historical places to check out while you stay in Barga, Italy. Barga was recently awarded "One of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy!" This Tuscan hidden gem is a medieval town nestled in the heart of the Serchio Valley and surrounded by the Apuan Alps. Nestled 410 meters above sea level. This small, quirky town is full of history, art, music, fantastic food, drink and culture.
Ponte della Maddalena

Ponte della Maddalena

Ponte della Maddalena, Tuscany 55023, Italy

The bridge at Borgo a Mozzano, called "The Devil's Bridge" or the "Maddalena Bridge" is certainly the most beautiful bridge in the province of Lucca, and one of the most suggestive in Italy. Many legends were born from its mysterious construction and its singular design, with one large arch flanked by three smaller ones, inspired the works of many artists. The bridge's slimming profile, which continues to strike its admirers, must have been even more impressive in the past before a dam was built, in the years after the Second World War, which raised the level of the water in the surrounding area.

Teatro 'dei Differenti'

Teatro 'dei Differenti'

1 Vicolo del Teatro, Barga, Toscana 55051, Italy

Teatro dei Differenti - literally translated into English it means the Theatre of the Deviant. It’s the theatre where Giovanni Pascoli pronounced his famous speech in favour of the Lybian war in 1911. Today - completely renovated with attention to preserving its original structure - it is home to many literary and cultural manifestations aimed to celebrate both the Italian poet and local literary, artistic and music organizations.

Pascoli House Museum

Pascoli House Museum

46 Via Giovanni Pascoli, San Mauro Pascoli, Emilia-Romagna 47030, Italy
, +39 0541 810100

Casa Pascoli in honor of the poet Giovanni Pascoli - is situated in Castelvecchio Garfagnana near Barga where Giovanni Pascoli lived for about 17 years. Now it’s a museum open to the public, still preserving some works of the poet, as well as his antique furnishings and decorations. The garden of the house is often home to several events, music, art and photo exhibitions, manifestations dedicated to both children and grown-ups, like the recent Festival of Kids held in late October.

Leaning Tower of Pisa

Leaning Tower of Pisa

While you're in Pisa why not swing by the the famous Leaning Tower? It's 10 minutes drive from the airport and amazing to see. If you don't have time to visit, take a glance out of the window during take-off or landing and you'll be rewarded with a great view from the sky.

Visit Florence

If you are sticking around after (or before) the wedding, we recommend a day trip to Florence. A 1hr train ride from Lucca or 1hr 40 minute drive from Barga. This beautiful city is perfect for food, drink and culture. Florence is home to some of the world's most famous churches, cathedrals and art. If you decide to go, book any excursions in advance as the city is a hot spot for tourists.

Visit Lucca

Lucca is a famous Tuscan city about 45 minutes from the wedding venue and 25 minutes from Pisa Airport. It’s known for it's well-preserved Renaissance walls encircling its historic city centre and cobblestone streets. You can rent bikes and cycle around the walls, stopping for drinks and lunch along the way - a lovely way to explore this beautiful city! The city can be visited in a day and is very easy to reach by car. You can also get the train to Lucca from Pisa, Florence and Barga.
