We're getting married!

Shane's sister, Erin, told Maquel during their Freshman year (2013) that they would be perfect for each other. A few quick hellos were exchanged over the years, but it wasn't up until the spring of 2016 at Pub Crawl when both Maquel and Shane were single and the sparks flew...

After Pub Crawl, an (in)famous bar crawl in Oshkosh, WI, Maquel and Shane ended up at a lovely local establishment called The French Quarter. Shane had shot his shot all day long with no success, so he knew he had to go big. After a drink or two to muster up the courage, he went up to the DJ booth and told the DJ that he was proposing to his girlfriend in the middle of the dance floor. Target locked: Maquel. The DJ called out "Can Maquel Jensen please come to the middle of the dance floor?" Maquel proceeded to the dance floor and to find Shane down on one knee. Despite people cheering for a kiss, Maquel left Shane high and dry. The target was not acquired that night... A few days later, Shane sent Maquel a Ring Pop in the mail with a handwritten note officially asking her on a date. Apparently she doesn't like Ring Pops, because the answer was still no.

Years past after the Pub Crawl fiasco and Maquel and Shane had gone their separate ways. However, if you ask either of them, they will tell you that something was always missing. It wasn't until Shane posted a funny Snapchat story and Maquel responded with a laughing face emoji that their paths realigned. After that it was history: the two love birds were dating within weeks and moved to Philadelphia together so that Shane could go back to school.

When Maquel and Shane were bunkered down together during COVID, Shane started a tradition where he would tell Maquel a reason he loved her each day. Maquel started giving reasons back and today they have told each other over 100 reasons each why they love one another. Fast forward to October 2020 when Maquel and Shane escaped to Portland, Maine for a long weekend together. Shane insisted on going to a light house at exactly 5:30pm (not obvious at all...). As the two of them were walking down what turned out to be a rocky pathway with lots of holes, Shane said, "I got you something." He handed Maquel a card that said "#77 I love you for..." on the front and inside said, "Saying Yes?" Maquel looked up from the card and Shane was down on one knee. Maquel said "YES!"
