How We Met

Who Wants to be My Sponsor?

In 2022 Grace joined a young adult group put together by her friend AJ. This group allowed Grace to grow spiritually and make some amazing lifelong friends. During that time, Jeremy was attending Oklahoma State. Over his senior year, he began to feel like there was something more to life. After watching The Da Vinci Code, he fell down the rabbit hole of Christian apologetics on YouTube. Through time and research, he decided to join RCIA in early 2023, despite knowing that he wouldn't get to finish the process at OSU. Fast forward to July, Jeremy is back home in Frisco. One day he went over to Coppell to check out a Catholic store. There, he stumbled upon St. Ann's, where he’d quickly join Alpha as the start of his new RCIA process. So for the next 11 weeks, Jeremy attended Alpha and got to know the folks in his group. On the last day, a guy from his group named AJ invited him to a young adults group. Obviously, Jeremy jumped all over it, but wasn't able to attend right away. So for the next few weeks, Grace and the others keep hearing about this Jeremy guy who’s supposed to be joining the group. Jeremy finally joined the group, and as the weeks turned into months, it came time for him to find an RCIA sponsor. During their next group meeting, Jeremy asked, “So you guys are really the only Catholics I know. Would anyone be willing to be my sponsor?” If he’s being honest, he hoped one of the guys would volunteer. Grace sat there and thought about it as nobody else responded. A little voice inside her told her to do it, so she nervously looked over and said, “I’d be happy to do it!” So there it was, Jeremy’s sponsor was one of the girls from his young adults group. That’s not weird at all…but soon we’d all find out why. Jumping to January of 2024, and by this time Jeremy has already admitted to his friend Diego that he was beginning to have a crush on Grace, but didn't know how to approach it with her being his sponsor. Grace had also begun to have a crush, but didn’t know how to handle it either and hadn’t told a soul. Towards the end of the month, the group got together to go ice skating in Plano. Grace was petrified of ice skating, but went anyway. On the drive over, Jeremy had a weird feeling that something big would happen that night. So he prayed the entire drive asking God what to do with his feelings toward Grace. Little did he know, he’d get an answer that night. When they got on the ice, Grace was stuck on the wall, struggling. Out of pity Jeremy went over and tried to guide her. They ended up holding hands as he guided her along, and everyone quickly took notice. Both Jeremy and Grace thought that the others knew something that they didn't, so they stopped and got Grace some of the training buckets that are used to help you stabilize on the ice. The following day, Jeremy jokingly texted Grace, aka “Miss Buckets”, asking how she felt after the day before. She replied saying how the buckets can never leave her side, along with a picture of all the bruises that came from leaning on the buckets. Smoothly, Jeremy responded with, “Well you can lean on me next time.” *side eye* After that, he thought the cat was out of the bag, but she still needed more confirmation that he had feelings for her. So, without revealing all of his cards, Jeremy sent a gif of Ted from How I Met Your Mother holding the blue french horn. Well, Grace didn’t get the reference. So, despite wanting to hold off the conversation until they met the following week, Jeremy confessed his feelings, and Grace finally reciprocated. They planned their first date for the following week and their love story moved fast after that, proving that trusting God and his timing will lead to everything you were worried about, falling perfectly into place. If we could give any advice, it would be not to fear, but trust in God’s timing. He has a plan for you and the ones you love. You simply have to trust in his divine providence.
