It all started with a note. Sitting in the Trani Life Sciences Auditorium for Dr. Reid's Intro to Biology class in Spring 2007, Maddie showed up late. "Did I miss anything for the test?". Jeffrey read the note, offered up little to no information of substance, and from there a friendship was born. For the next few years, Jeffrey and Maddie would walk to the Chik-Fil-A in VCU's student commons and eat breakfast after Psychology classes. Maddie would attend parties with Jeffrey and patiently sit in a chair, sober as a judge, while drunk conversations happened around and to her. She would swear she had fun, and, at the end of the night, Jeffrey would walk Maddie through the dark Fan streets to the apartment she shared with her sister. In 2009, life happened and Jeffrey left VCU to move home to Harrisonburg for a semester. Jeffrey and Maddie lost touch and would only talk once or twice for the next six years. Until... One late night, a newly single Jeffrey received a text from a newly single Maddie who was going to be visiting her friends Ryan and Mary and wanted to know if Jeffrey could meet up. From walks along the Richmond Flood Wall, hikes through Pocahontas State Park, and other, nerdier things, like soldering together a radio and chasing Pokemon, a romance blossomed. Maddie's self-described "laid-back" and "chill" disposition balanced out Jeffrey's cynical, sarcastic nature like a capacitor bank to a predominately inductive motor load.
