In 2019, Fernando moved west from Richmond, Virginia, and Maddie came east from San Francisco, California, to work for Kamala Harris in the Democratic presidential caucus in Des Moines, Iowa. Over late nights at dive bars, Maddie and Fernando connected over shared experiences, the passions and values that brought them to Iowa, and their mutual desire to always keep the party going. Upon leaving Iowa and meeting up in Washington, D.C., they went on four perfect dates in four days. A few short months later, they'd be happily quarantining together, signing a lease, and making plans to go to law school at the University of Virginia. That's rights, folks. Maddie and Fernando have survived law school, a global pandemic, and the 2020 presidential election – together. Fernando and Maddie are eminently qualified to serve as husband and wife!
