It all started in 2017 with a Snapchat story and a bold message. Ben saw Jenny on a mutual friend’s post and immediately asked, “Who is that, and why haven’t I met her yet?” One message later, the wheels of fate were in motion. They quickly became best friends thanks in no small part to Hector, Ben’s chocolate lab and shameless third wheel. Their early days were filled with dog walks, bar hopping, movie marathons, and pretending they were "just friends" (spoiler: no one believed them). Then came the twist: Jenny moved to Florida for grad school. Even though they weren’t officially dating, they visited each other every other month and FaceTimed like it was their full-time job. Somewhere along the way, it hit them; they were already in love. Since then, life’s moved fast in the best possible way: they closed the distance, moved in together, adopted their second dog, Ginger (Hector approved), got engaged, and bought a house. Now, you’ll find them rating movies like self-appointed critics, singing too loudly at concerts, collecting photo booth strips like trophies, and debating Marvel plot holes with the intensity of scholars. It’s been a wild, hilarious, and heart-filled ride and they can’t wait to celebrate the next chapter with all of you.
Ben and Jenny have always loved walking the dogs at the green space on Auburn’s campus; it was one of their very first traditions together. So when it came time to pop the question, Ben knew exactly where it needed to happen. There was just one challenge: Jenny is notoriously hard to surprise. (Christmas basically starts on December 1st every year because she can’t wait.) So Ben had to get sneaky. Luckily, their four-year anniversary was coming up; the perfect cover. He casually suggested a laid-back dinner with the dogs, knowing it would play right into the plan. Jenny, already dreading the game day crowds since their anniversary landed the Friday before Auburn’s first football game, didn’t question it. That day, Jenny had a hectic day at work and didn’t notice Ben had left work early to pick up the ring. (He couldn’t keep it at home, she already snooped through his drawers weeks ago). When she got home, Ben mentioned their dinner was later than usual but suggested walking the dogs around campus first. Jenny was exhausted and mildly suspicious when Ben insisted she change into a specific dress, a little fancier than she would’ve picked for a casual dinner, but she went with it. As they walked through campus, laughing at tailgate tents and playing with the dogs, Ben told Jenny he got Marlene a new bandana but she had to turn around for the “big reveal.” Totally normal, the dogs get a new outfit for every occasion. Jenny, holding Ginger, turned away. For a moment, she suspected something... until she realized Ben had only mentioned Marlene’s bandana. Not Ginger’s. The audacity. While she was mid-rant about the injustice, Ben told her to turn around. There he was. Down on one knee. Jenny’s brain immediately short-circuited. What if I’m assuming the wrong thing? Is this a prank? And seriously, why doesn’t Ginger have a bandana?? Then she saw the bandana: “Will you marry my dad?” Naturally, she pet Marlene and said, “Aww, of course I will,” while giving Ben a completely blank stare. He started a heartfelt speech. Jenny heard none of it. Rumor has it, she never technically said yes. Just a lot of squeals and, “Wait… what??!” It was chaotic, sentimental, and covered in dog hair, just like their life together. And it couldn’t have been more perfect.
