Crested Butte is a mountain biking mecca. Keep in mind that most of the trails are intermediate-expert terrain coupled with the difficulty of riding at altitude. Our favorite trail is the Snodgrass trail and the 401 trail is iconic. For suggestions on more mellow rides, please reach out to us directly or consult the information on Mountain Bike Project or through one of the local retailers. Crested Butte Mountain Resort also has a network of downhill trails and a bike park. Bike rental retailers are listed below. There is great stream and lake fishing throughout the Crested Butte-Gunnison area. A mellow area for beginners is the Roaring Judy Fish Hatchery. Green Lake is pretty spectacular but requires a 7 mile round trip hike to access. We recommend contacting one of the guide companies that we've had a lot of success with, listed below. Below is a list of popular places to hike and view these gems. https://www.crestedbuttewildflowerfestival.com https://tinyurl.com/Wildflower-Locator
The margaritas here can be dangerous. As can be the guacamole since it comes served in a 20 lb. molcajete. But man... both are worth taking the risk. This joint is unique because not only is it the site of the old power mill but every piece of decor is recycled in some way or another.
Only the fanciest of dining suggestions will do for our guests. Soupçon (pronounced "soup's on") is a French American bistro with selections that surpassed our expectations. The restaurant is very small, maybe a maximum of 6 tables, and only has 2 dinner seatings, at 6 PM and 8:30 PM. Reservations required.
