Never to go by the book, we went back and forth a bit about what getting married would do to our last names. Back when Chris and I first started dating, I told him that I would never change my name again! He was totally fine with that, but did mention that "Wrubel means Little Bird in Polish...". At the time, I was still in the process of going back to Dove (and overjoyed about it!), and over time we got used to the "Wrubel/Dove/Roth" household moniker. I would joke that if Chris claimed ALL of his family heritage, he would be Christopher Michael Cochran Miller Wrubel Clendaniel...why not add Dove on there? So it was not that surprising when it all came together in one simple conversation. Lani: I would totally take your last name...just not that one. Chris: What other name would you take then? Lani: Well, what about Cochran? Chris: ....you would take my mother's maiden name?! That's the most amazing thing I've ever heard. And so it is, that 49 years later, Chris will return to his first last name. And Lani gets to continue her parent's tradition of setting aside the family name to create something new and different. Think of it as our something old & something new, all at the same time.
