Getting to Lake Lure If you’re flying in for the wedding, the closest major airports are Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), Asheville Regional Airport (AVL), and Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP). Charlotte is about a 1.5–2 hour drive to Lake Lure, Asheville is roughly one hour away, and Greenville-Spartanburg is about one hour from Lake Lure. From any of these airports, we recommend renting a car, as Lake Lure is a mountain lake town and driving is the easiest way to get around. The drive is scenic and a beautiful introduction to western North Carolina! If you’re driving from the North or Mid-Atlantic (hello, fellow Marylanders!), there are a couple of ways to get to Lake Lure. You can take I-95 to I-85 for a more direct route, or opt for the scenic drive along I-81 to I-77, then take I-40 west toward Asheville. Both routes will lead you straight into the beautiful mountains of WNC. Pro Tip: Leave as early as you can to avoid traffic!
