It may come as no surprise to those who know us well, but our love started in a classroom. Who knew that the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine was playing matchmaker when they asked us to be the first presenters of the year for our class's journal club? Kieran first caught Lydia’s eye when he got up to present about cardiomyocytes and their gap junctions, and Kieran was equally impressed by Lydia’s description of heat shock proteins. Don't worry, keep reading—we’re done with the nerdy part. Our chemistry in the classroom soon carried over to the court when we hung out for the first time playing basketball with our classmates. With Kieran as point guard and Lydia as power forward, we quickly realized we made a great team (Kieran would like to note that we won all of our games). After that first hangout outside of school, we became fast friends—sneaking out of our research labs for coffee and talking far too long when we probably should have been finishing our experiments. Eventually, Kieran asked if he could take Lydia out for Thai food, which just so happens to be our favorite cuisine. Soon after our first date, we knew we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. Over the next few months, we were rarely apart—cooking, hanging out with friends, and, of course, studying. Four years later, we now live together in a house in Cleveland Heights, OH, where we enjoy walking around the neighborhood, playing tennis, hosting friends, and going to off Broadway shows. We are big sports fans, although Kieran had to come to terms with Lydia being a Patriot’s supporter. We’re in our last year of medical school—Kieran will be applying for Urology residency, and Lydia aspires to pursue an Internal Medicine residency followed by a Cardiology fellowship. We are incredibly excited to welcome friends and family to be apart of the celebration of our marriage. We look forward to seeing everyone in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, which is Lydia’s home. Our ceremony will be held at St. Mary’s Church, where Lydia’s mother Jennifer Pedrick is the rector (though she will not be presiding over our service). The reception will be held a the Glen Manor House set on the banks of the Sakonnet River.
St. Mary's is a serene and peaceful place, filled with many special memories for both of us. In 2014, Lydia's mother, Jennifer, was appointed rector and moved into the rectory on the church's property. St. Mary's is more than just a beautiful setting—it feels like home to us, not only because of its stunning grounds but also because of the wonderful community it holds. We feel so lucky to be married in a place that means so much to us and to share its beauty with all of you. St. Mary's was first established in 1843 by Miss Sarah Gibbs, a devout Episcopalian who was determined to bring the church to the people of Middletown and Portsmouth. The church's historic building began with the laying of the cornerstone on September 2, 1874. The church was designed by Richard Upjohn, a famous English architect, who also designed Kingscote and the Edward King House in Newport, Trinity Church in New York City, and many other churches around the country. St. Mary’s restored the historic church from the basement to the top of the steeple over a five-year period (2017-2022). During COVID, we all remember going on an excessive number of walks. During that time, the Pedrick-DeAngelo family became well acquainted with the Glen Manor House, as Jennifer, Bella, and Lydia made it a habit to walk down to the water by the estate—sometimes multiple times a day. This route quickly became our family’s regular walking path, a quiet escape from the craziness of that time period. As a couple, we regularly walk or run the "family loop" when in Rhode Island, often pausing to take in the gardens and enjoy its proximity to Sandy Point Beach. We feel so fortunate to celebrate our marriage in this beautiful place—eating delicious food and dancing the night away with all of you after our ceremony.
