With eyes closed tight, and no one making a sound, we were placed in front of our summer comrade. While the suspense built and the curiosity almost opened our eyes for us, we waited for the queue to see the fate of our summer. Then my eyes were opened and I saw him, standing there looking back at me. ... We met at a leadership retreat in Pensylvania for the Youth Challenge Literature Evangelism Program. While Kevin was outgoing and knew everyone, I was still getting acclimated to my surroundings. Then the moment came and the leadership teams were revealed. My heart raced as I considered the new teams and wondered what the rest of the summer would hold. "How would the two of us get along?" To my relief, the next 10 weeks went by very smoothly on our team and by the end of the summer we had all become a family. After much prayer and counsel, once the program had ended, Kevin was impressed to share his feelings with me. From there our story continued, one day at a time, and every day, more and more, my eyes were opened to the great gift God was giving me in Kevin's friendship!
I knew that this was what God had planned for me after much seeking and praying. I spoke to mentor after mentor and through every conversation, God had made it more and more evident that He crossed our paths for a reason. With this conviction being set in my heart, I went into yet another canvassing summer, with Jessica, not knowing what to expect. After the weekend celebration ended I waited patiently behind the curtains on the stage. Lights surrounded me and feelings of hope, joy and anxiousness filled my mind as I waited patiently for her to finish the scavenger hunt that led to me. I watched as the curtains were pulled open and tears rolled down her cheeks. All the clapping and gasping faded in the background and for a moment it was just the three of us. In just a blink of an eye, everything ceased to exist. All that remained was hope, hope for an adventure of a lifetime that was now beginning with just four simple words..."Will you marry me?"
