Kathryn and Patrick met in the Zurich airport on the way to their Northwestern study abroad program in June of 2018. They ended up sitting next to each other on the short 2-hour flight to Belgrade (of which Patrick was not in his seat for over an hour). Kathryn wondered if she made a bad first impression, but Patrick claimed that he was "stuck behind the drink cart." Although off to a tough start, Kathryn and Patrick became friends right away. They grew closer, sharing new adventures for a month in Serbia and a month in Bosnia-Herzegovina. When they returned to Northwestern's campus in the fall, they continued to hang out. Kathryn invited Patrick to her sorority Halloween date night, and they started dating in November 2018 on the night of the Carly Rae Jepsen concert. They spent the rest of Patrick's senior year together in Evanston before he moved to Denver for Teach for America in June 2019. They were so excited to reunite in Chicago during the summer of 2020 and loved their time in the city together! In 2021, Kathryn returned to New Jersey to attend Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and Patrick joined at the same school one year later! They moved in together in New Brunswick, and Patrick proposed in the apartment on July 9, 2024. He surprised Kathryn with both of their families holding up signs on the roof of the parking garage outside their window. Kathryn and Patrick have cherished the 3 years they've had together in New Jersey. Kathryn moved to Chicago in June 2025 for her first year of psychiatry residency at Northwestern while Patrick finishes his last year of medical school. They are excited for what the next chapter holds!
