Kamiya was born 28 September 1991 in Lancaster, SC. She is the daughter of Robert and Joyce Kirkland. Sister to Coteka and Robert Kirkland Jr.

Cornelius was born 24 December 1984 in Nyack, NY. He is the son of Harrison and Gloria Harrison. Brother of Michael Monroe, Tyrone Monroe, and Harrison Harrison. Father of De'Yonna, Trey, and Kai Harrison.

They met in Wichita Falls, TX through Cornelius's co-worker (Willett). He offered to introduce Cornelius to fellow Military Training Leaders located in the dorm across the street. Little did he know, this is where Kamiya worked. Later on that week, a mutual friend of both (Jo Johnson) made dinner plans to Bricktown restaurant and invited both parties. This was the official meet and greet for them to get to know each other. Following the dinner, Cornelius got Kamiya's number. After that evening, they continued to meet for dinner, movies, and nights out with friends. Months later they grew fond of each other and decided to spend more time together. Kamiya liked to call it "week-enders" but, Cornelius wanted it to be more than that. As more time passed, they eventually became a couple and hit the ground running, traveling and enjoying life.
