In light of the unknown and unforeseen chaos of the rapidly progressing COVID-19 issue, we have sadly had to postpone our wedding date. We will no longer be getting married on April 18, 2020. Of course we are heartbroken, but we are excited that we have found an alternate date that we can still celebrate with you all! We felt strongly about protecting the health and safety of all of our guests and vendors, and we truly believe that God's timing is and will always be perfect. This will definitely be an interesting addition to our story. We love you all, and we are thankful for the continuous love and encouragement we have received. We have waited almost 8 years, what's a few more months, right?! We hope to see you all, so soon! Please direct all questions to the FAQ tab and additional questions to marykalyndavis@gmail.com!
Collin & I met in high school through mutual friends. I was a junior (16), and Collin was a senior (18). We attended different high schools in the area, therefore we truly had to “date” each other. Our first date was shared over a luxurious meal at a local cheap Chinese restaurant. When he asked me if I could meet him for dinner, I was reluctant to tell him no even though I had to play in a varsity basketball game that night. I was too afraid we wouldn’t be able to reschedule, so I decided to just make it work. Sadly, this meant I showed up in sweatpants and a baseball cap. Little did I know then, Collin would appreciate my love for athletics more than any fashionable outfit. Never before had a first date felt so natural. We talked for hours. Even though we had just met, we felt as comfortable as old familiar friends. By the end of the night, Collin asked me if I would go with him to prom, and immediately I said yes. Collin jokes all the time that he wasn’t looking for his wife that night, just a date to his senior prom. Many dates followed after that night. Sunday afternoons quickly became our routine. One Sunday though, we both had to cancel due to prior commitments. After talking, we realized we actually had the same commitment. I had signed up to model dresses at a local bridal expo, and Collin and his friends were modeling tuxedos in exchange for a prom rental discount. Even though we barely saw each other that day, we had a great time modeling at the show and had enough time to snag our first picture together. Later that night, Collin asked if I would be his girlfriend, and I replied, “I thought I already was.”
Before we met, Collin had already decided to attend the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN (2013). We were both nervous to be separated so quickly, but we told each other, we could make it work. This marked the beginning of our 7-year long-distance relationship. The following year, I decided to attend Auburn University in Auburn, AL (2014). The next 3 years were packed full of text messages, Facetimes, road trips, and living for the weekends. Throughout this period of our relationship we built a lot of trust and maturity. Being 336 miles away from each other was no easy feat. My sophomore year of college I decided to apply for pharmacy school at Samford University in Birmingham, AL. This meant another 4 years of potentially being long distance. I was accepted and began in the fall of 2016. Collin spent an additional 2 years in graduate school at UT in Knoxville, and recently graduated this past December (2018). Long distance has become all too familiar, but has made us stronger in the end. Recently, Collin moved to Atlanta, GA for work. I am still finishing pharmacy school in Birmingham, AL. We are planning to get married right before I graduate in May 2020, and finally will live in the same state again. After what will be 7+ years of long-distance, we are thrilled to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Little did 16-year-old me know that a simple date over Chinese food would give me all of this. Although this journey has been anything but ordinary, I would do it all over again if it meant I got to marry Collin.
After Collin's graduation, as a gift, we went to London England to visit Collin's aunt and uncle. On Monday 12/17, the first full day of our trip to London, Collin had made plans for us to go on the London Eye and reservations for dinner at the OXO Tower afterward. Little did I know he actually had planned a little more than just that!! He was calm all day, letting me shop and sight see as much as I wanted. At 4:00 we had tickets to the Eye. Soon I realized not only did he book us tickets... he had booked a private pod for just us two, chocolate and bubbly included! Collin is a tad scared of heights so I really thought this was just a nice gesture for me (because I love anything with a view!). However, it was much more than that... at the top, Collin took my hand, popped the question, and of course I said Y E S (so quickly that the secret photographer actually asked him to “get on one knee again” lol) Truly a dream come true!
