Kaela was home from traveling for the weekend and was invited to tailgate with her dear friends, McKenzie Anderson and Emily Wood. After celebrating the Huskers at a couple of tailgates, Jared texted Emily to have her come to the infamous Kenkel's tailgate. Kaela was greeted by Jared with a captain and coke in hand and the rest is history.
Kaela was working for Gamma Phi Beta International Headquarters where she would travel to different college campuses and assess chapter operations internally and externally. For the 2019 spring semester, Kaela working at Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. Jared promised Kaela that he was coming to visit her since she was within driving distance. One day, Kaela finished up her meetings for the day and FaceTimed Jared to see what he was up to. Jared said, "I am in the car, driving to come to see you." Kaela was in shock that he was actually coming down. Jared and Kaela spent the whole weekend together by visiting the local breweries, going shopping, and discovering Kaela's new city. Kaela and Jared both knew that there was something special about one another and started dating shortly after.
After a year of being long distance, Kaela was finally home from Lexington, KY because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Jared told Kaela that their good friends, Chelsea Naber and Ryan Leslie, were practicing their photography skills. Kaela and Jared went to Holmes Lake, which is a meaningful spot for Kaela, and during one of the photos, Jared popped the question. Kaela, of course, said yes, and shortly after said, "I need to stop crying or my lashes will fall off." Needless to say, it was the most perfect proposal.
Jared is a People Development Coordinator at Brookstone Village where he works with 265 employees on conflict resolution. Kaela is working on getting her Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at UNO. She works at Immanuel as a Life Enrichment Coordinator specifically working with independent living, assisted living, and memory support. They bought a home together in July in Omaha and have been working on truly making it their own. Additionally, they added to their family with their mini red-tri Australian Shepard named Millie!
