How We Met

We met through mutual friends in college. Jordan was the only person who would get up at 6 a.m. to go to the gym with me. It was during these early morning workouts where we really started to get to know each other. One Friday night, Jordan and his roommate were having a party. I got there early, so it was just Jordan and I for a while. Having just gotten back from Canada, I was looking forward to eating the poutine I got at McDonald's (the perfect late night snack). Without even giving it a second thought, I started sharing it with him. If you know me well, you also know that I NEVER share cups or utensils with anyone (I might be a bit germaphobic) and that when it comes to poutine, I'm pretty selfish. But for some reason, sharing with Jordan just felt natural. A week after this night, we started dating on February 29th.

The Proposal

2.28.23

On the 3 year anniversary of when we started dating, Jordan told me to call him when I got home from work before going inside because he had a surprise for me. I had a small feeling he might be proposing, but quickly pushed it away to avoid getting my hopes up. He led me upstairs with my eyes closed and told me he would come get me when it was ready. A few hours later, I went down the stairs, each one carefully decorated with candles and rose petals. The table was even more elaborate, prepared with more candles and rose petals, a beautiful bouquet of flowers, wine, champagne, and a dinner consisting of salmon, asparagus, and portobello mushrooms. At this point, I was more than happy with this being the surprise. I didn't expect for the night to become even more special a few hours later when Jordan would tell me we should open the champagne. I saw him reach for a small box and knew that it was finally happening-the moment I had been dreaming and wondering about for most of our relationship. As he got down on one knee, it felt entirely surreal. Obviously, I said yes. When I finally processed what had happened, I finally looked at the ring and was in awe by how perfect and special it was. The intimate proposal with just the two of us was better than I could have ever planned. I have replayed it in my head countless times since.
