Jonathon proposed on Monday, May 10, 2021 at the lookout at Benedictine College. He came up to visit for my graduation and to help me move out of my house. Little did I know he was going to propose then! I couldn't wait to pick him up at the airport that day. It had been six weeks since we had seen each other. After spending an amazing day together - having a picnic by a lake in Kansas City - Jonathon mentioned he wanted to go to mass that night. So, we drove back to Atchison and headed to 5:30 mass. Afterwards, we went on a walk on campus to “The Lookout”, a beautiful spot that overlooks the Missouri river. (This is a well-known spot on campus for proposals, but I wasn't thinking anything of it because I knew Jonathon was unaware of this fact.) We sat on one of the wooden benches, and he said "I have a gift for you." He gave me a graduation gift that he handmade for me. Then, we walked out closer to the edge to look at the river, and he said, “I have another gift for you, but I want to say some stuff first". Looking in each other's eyes, he proceeded to tell me how amazing the past 5 1/2 years were and that he didn't want to spend the rest of his life with anyone else. My eyes flooded with tears. We both hugged and cried, and then he got down on one knee. I was in pure shock. It felt unreal that the man of my dreams - who has led me closer to Christ than anyone - was asking me to be his wife. I said yes, and we stood there for a while, just the two of us, soaking in every bit of the most amazing moment of our lives. Before doing anything else, we went back into Church, got a blessing from a priest, and knelt before the blessed sacrament, thanking Jesus for the gift of each other. Then, we Facetimed both of our families and experienced so much love and joy from our biggest supporters. Although, this has been the best day of our lives, we know that by following God's plan... the best is yet to come.
