Altitude Sickness

Altitude Sickness can be a very real problem for people visiting Colorado. The altitude of the town of Telluride is 8,750 ft above sea level and that's the lowest point of all the areas surrounding it. We recommend talking to your primary care physician before traveling about a prescription for Diamox (Acetazolamide). It helps quicken acclimatization to altitude. Other things that can be helpful are spending a night or two in Denver or Montrose where the altitude is around 5,500 ft above seal level.
More info:
You may notice the effects of the altitude immediately and it may take a couple of days to get acclimated. You may experience shortness of breath, persistent headache, quickened pulse, and light-headedness. You might also experience a touch of nausea or insomnia.
The standard prescription for coping with the altitude is to remain well hydrated and take it easy on the caffeinated and alcoholic beverages.
