Our story starts way back in the fall of 2012, Riya would drag Rachel Kril along when she went to Abe and Jimmy’s house in New Paltz with Dan. Riya developed a massive crush on Jimmy, and unbeknownst to her, the feeling was mutual. Neither of us made a move, though, and Riya went back to college and Jimmy moved out. We saw each other occasionally and mostly got along great (except for the time Jimmy threw Riya’s shoe into the woods - ask him to show you the subsequent apology video). After reconnecting in 2018, Jimmy made his move and invited Riya out on a date, but wouldn’t tell her where it was. It was a very hot July day, Jimmy got sushi (admittingly a poor choice for the temperature) and was very prepared with all the snacks and drinks imaginable. The surprise date location was the drive-in and aside from Riya being too nervous (and hot) to actually eat, the date went well. We went out a few times after that but the distance between Wallkill & Stamford proved to be too hard and the timing once again wasn’t quite right. In 2021, that changed. Jimmy started working at the same law firm as Riya, after a year of working together, Riya left for a job at Pepsi. About a week later, Jimmy asked Riya out on another drive-in date. It started out rough. As Jimmy drove to the drive-in, the air mattress he’d brought flew out of the back of his truck. It careened down the side of the highway while Jimmy frantically chased it down. Upon arrival, Jimmy hit a concrete pole while backing into our space, but the rest of the night went well with no further mishaps. After three years of so many laughs, TV binges, movie dates, drives up and down 684, walks with Indy, and weekend getaways, we headed to the drive-in a third time on July 27, 2024. They say the third time’s a charm - the mattress stayed put in the truck, we parked in our spot without any issues, and the temperature was perfect! Again, we got sushi and had plenty of snacks. In between movie showings, Jimmy pulled off the ultimate surprise and proposed. After the initial shock and some clarifying questions (“what are you doing?”, “is that real?”, etc.) Riya said yes!
