We met at mutual friend's rooftop July 4th party in Venice Beach in 2018.
Jesse: this woman is awesome, I'd like to get to know her. Jihee: everyone here seems to know him and say hi to him. very friendly and outgoing, I like his energy. Years later during our first date shared over a bowl of noodles, I realized I love being around him.
Jesse: our first weekend away to Santa Barbara, CA to visit a friend. and when I farted and Jihee didn't leave me (might have happened that weekend). Jihee: Jesse had a meal ready for me after a long day at the salon across town - mackerel, rice, and veggies - which is a meal that my mother would cook for me regularly. I had never mentioned this to him, but in that moment I knew he was my home.
Jesse had this planned for months, where unbeknownst to Jihee an engagement proposal was in her near future. While visiting Jesse's parents during the holidays in Park City, UT, in 2023, Jesse's mom passed off the family ring to Jesse while Jihee was asleep. Jesse packed this ring into the deepest layer of his bookbag to bring to their Hawaii trip a few months later. They were hiking along a volcano in Big Island, Hawaii where it started off in a lush rainforest with little visibility. As soon as the trees cleared, the sun finally appeared and provided them warmth, they were graced with the sun reflecting on the obsidian volcanic ash on top of the dormant volcano in front of them. Jihee was adamant on capturing that shot but noticed something in the way of the perfect photo... Jesse crouched down rustling for something in his bookbag. Disgruntled, she asked him to move. He moved alright. He moved one step closer to Jihee down on a bended knee (thanks Boyz II Men), with a ring resembling Princess Diana's sapphire. Everything else is a blur.
From our puppy training classes with our new addition Bialy to the quiet moments during road trips without any music. Replicating our favorite meals out at home coupled with a nice bottle of red selected from our wine collection. Hanging out with family.
What are your dreams for the future as a couple? When we reach our 90s and we look back at our lifelong journey together, we can look at each other and say, "you did a good job, kid"
Jesse: it's difficult to answer i don't like this question. There's so much that i love about her, depends on the time, day, etc., that I could answer this question differently. But if I had to pick 3 things, her energy, her smile, her silliness, and her love. Jihee: he has a way where anyone he meets makes them feel comfortable and safe and truly takes the time to get to know them. he leans into my goofiness and we act in goof land together.
