Thank you, Syd, for the video 🤍 And thank you to our wonderful friends (everywhere) for everything you do for us ✨
In 2019 Giorgia joined a salsa class at UVic. There, she made an Italian friend there, Rossana, & they became two dancing peas in a pod. Every Wednesday they giggled their way through class, & afterwards they went out for a cheeky beer. Around the same time, Jayson joined his own salsa class hoping to “become more coordinated” for soccer (with a healthy side of "meet a girl"). In early 2020, Giorgia's salsa classes at UVic were cancelled, & she and Rossana found new classes elsewhere. Giorgia noticed Jayson immediately when they walked in, & gave Rossana the *cute boy at six o’clock* look. Luckily, the friends spoke the same secret language & chatted all class long about how cute he was. Rossana encouraged her to dance with Jay, but Giorgia couldn’t look him in the eyes for too long without blushing. So she stared as his chest the entire time... smooth. After class, Giorgia invited the group to go for beers, & thankfully Jay took the bait. Which is shocking in hindsight, because it was a Tuesday evening, almost 9pm, & it was a work night (if you know Jay, you know this is unusual). At the time, Giorgia was organizing a year-long move to Europe for her Master's. One of her stops was going to be Berlin, & Jay used this as an excuse to get her Facebook (what year is this?) so he could give her advice. They went on their first date on March 12th, & only 4 days later lockdown started. Early on in their relationship, it was unclear where Giorgia would be by the fall. So, when their friends asked how things were going, their answers were always “It’s casual! We’re just watching movies.” They concluded that labels were not for them, & that they didn’t want to get attached in case moved. Spoiler alert: Giorgia wasn't able to do her research year abroad. When it became clear that she wasn't going anywhere, they let themselves fall. In July, Jayson decided to revisit the question of labels. The conversation went a little something like this: J: “Sooo… how do you feel about labels” G: “Great! I feel good about labels, labels are good!” J: “Great!” *Leaves room* That’s it. That was the answer. Are you confused? So was Giorgia. She brought this to her council of girls & when they too were confused, Giorgia sought clarification. When she asked Jayson if this was his way of making things official, he said “Yeah…. wasn’t that clear!?” (Classic Jay) Fast forward 5 years & Jayson was organizing a weekend away on the Sunshine Coast. He spent three months planning a proposal with some of their closest friends, (lovingly) gaslighting Giorgia so she wouldn’t suspect a thing. On the day of the proposal, Jay brought Giorgia on a hike in Smuggler’s Cove, & she was sure he wouldn’t propose on a hike because that’s just not her style. Jay couldn't resist teaching her by stopping at beautiful viewpoints along the way, and even made a TikTok together. They stopped at a coffee shop before the proposal, where Giorgia’s dad hilariously almost blew the surprise — but didn’t because Giorgia happened to speak over him & totally missed it. Finally, they ended up at Baker’s Bay, where Jayson threw Giorgia off one more time with an Oura ring gift box. When she opened it, instead of finding an Oura ring, she found a piece of paper which read “Labels?” When she turned to Jay, he was on one knee. But the surprises didn't end there! After soaking in their joy, Jayson told Giorgia that he booked a private AirBnB experience at someone’s house. When they arrived, Giorgia was completely caught off guard when their friends jumped out yelling “surprise!” Best. Day. Ever. (Yes, even better than going to the Eras Tour... but that's up there too) We are so excited to share our wedding with you all, whether you are able to come or not. We love you & we thank you for the role you’ve played in our lives & in our relationship. Ci vediamo in Italia 🤍 Con tantissimo affetto, Giorgia e Jayson
