The year is 2013. The place? Dallas, Texas. Brittney is a seasoned actor with years of experience. Javon is a budding poet new to the area. They both audition and get cast in the same play. Destiny? Maybe... The play is called “Suspects in America”. Brittney, with her years of acting experience (did we mention that?), asks Javon for help performing a poem that was part of her lines. Javon fell for it. They set a date to practice. They got together and they did not practice. But they did feel an immediate attraction. They went on their first “real” date shortly after. Strolling around Klyde Warren Park, their conversation solidified a lifelong romance, friendship, and eventually love. The two remained friends while pursuing their artistry until 2019, when they reconnected after finding themselves back on the East Coast and the next act began.

The Ring: The ring, purchased in North Carolina was an original design and is as unique as their relationship. The In-Laws: Javon scooped up his future mother-in-law in style with an orange drop-top Cadillac and cruised to a restaurant in downtown Arlington, where his future father-in-law joined via Zoom. Both gave their blessing before Javon made his next move, taking Brittney out of the country. The Trip: Originally planned as a double celebration for Brittney’s birthday and our anniversary- but really- who can pass up proposing while being immersed in the sun, sea and beauty of Jamaica? The Dinner: We sat on the ocean in a private beachfront gazebo. The meal consisted of four delicious courses, all picked by Javon himself. The waves crashed and the stars aligned (literally, the waiter pointed this out). Tears were cried. Jokes were made. The question was popped, and Brittney said YES!
