We were on an epic, six state road trip and on a mission to go to as many National Parks as possible. After visiting the Grand Canyon and Petrified Forest in Arizona and Bandolier in New Mexico, we found ourselves at the amazing (and underrated) Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado. We camped in the park with an awesome view of the the tallest Dunes in North America, then woke up early the next morning to hike them. In my mind, this hike was going to be leisurely and relaxing, but, in case ya'll didn't know, walking on sand is really hard. We often had to stop to lay down. During one of these moments of laying elegantly on the sand, this fit rock climbing couple easily passed us, while we made an excuse about the altitude, which they graciously accepted. At the top of the dunes, a giant dune field was visible and it was absolutely stunning. A charming couple took our photo and the rock climbing couple congratulated us on surviving, then everyone else left and it was just us. We enjoyed the view for a while then Jared stood me up, faced me towards the dunes, and started saying all these sweet things to me about how much he loved me and wanted to spend his life adventuring with me. Me, being the insightful, all knowing woman that I am, had absolutely no idea he was proposing until he got down on one knee with a ring and said the words "will you marry me?" I thought he was getting his phone out of his pocket when he reached to get the ring, that's how surprised I was. So, after staring at him in complete disbelief for longer than I am proud of (I needed time to recover), I said yes. When we were ready to leave the dunes, I decided it was time to slide down them in epic victory. I looked at Jared and dramatically said "see you on the other side," then jumped. And stuck in the sand in the same spot I started. I then proceeded to gracefully roll down the dune, while Jared was reminded what he got himself into for the rest of his life. Muahahaha. Love ya babe.
