The Long Haul: Our Journey to Forever

A chance meeting, a decade of friendship, and a love that never let go.

A Meeting at Baggage Claim It all started at baggage claim in Atlanta during BBYO IC 2015. Jason and Jamie thought they’d have a fun convention fling, but something deeper was there. A Love That Took Its Time Though their connection was instant, the timing wasn’t. Over the next five years, they lived independently. Finally, on November 7, 2020, they had their first official date. They talked for six months before making it official on March 6, 2021. Their relationship grew through deep conversations and visits across state lines. Jason made six-hour drives from Tallahassee to Charleston, often with his rabbit, Zev, in tow. Jamie visited him too—she even braved an FSU football game. Their first trip together was to the Jersey Shore, where Jason got his first Wawa experience. Later that year, they spent winter break in Florida. Challenges That Made Them Stronger Long distance was tough. Jamie’s demanding job and Jason’s remote work at Comcast made it hard to find time. But their biggest test came in 2022 when Jamie moved to Israel for rabbinical school. Jason, now in New Jersey, was working long hours at the Jewish Federation, while Jamie was immersed in school. They made it work through short visits—Jason’s trip to Israel that fall was amazing. Building a Life Together When Jamie returned in 2023, they took the next step—moving in together in NYC. It was an adjustment. Jason hadn’t had a roommate since college, and Jamie had just spent a year sharing space in Israel. They had different habits, but they learned, grew, and made it work. By June 2024, they signed a lease in Long Island City. That’s when they both knew: an engagement was coming. A Proposal in the Making Jamie wasn’t shy about dropping hints, but Jason had known since January 1, 2024, that he wanted to marry her. By summer, plans were in motion. He told his brothers and Jamie’s parents in July, and by August, Jason's plan to propose to Jamie was in full swing. A Future to Look Forward To Now, as they prepare for marriage, they’re most excited about the simple things—building a life together, as best friends and partners. What began at an airport baggage claim turned into a love story spanning years, states, and even continents. And this is only the beginning.
