Our mutual friend (and the Maid of Honor!) knew we'd make a great pair and planned to introduce us at a college party. Greta knocked on the apartment door, and Wyatt answered wearing a giant straw hat and a smile. They teamed up for beer pong, and even after losing terribly, they exchanged phone numbers with a plan for a first date.
Greta stood on the corner waiting for Wyatt to pick her up and will never forget his Chevy Blazer whip around the corner so fast she could've sworn two wheels were off the ground. They grabbed Chipotle to go and ate it outside on the McNamara plaza at the University of Minnesota campus, but Greta forgot to grab a fork, and Wyatt kindly walked all the way back to the restaurant to grab her one. After dinner, they walked across the Stone Arch bridge to grab ice cream and brought it up to the Guthrie Theater sky deck to enjoy the view of the river. They both knew from the first date that this would be something special.
After taking subtle (and not so subtle) hints from Greta for a few years, Wyatt bought a ring and started to plan a proposal that would completely surprise her. He enlisted the help of their friends, Connor and Miranda, to pull off the surprise. They created a pretend dinner reservation on the evening of March 11th, and Greta thought nothing of it. The evening came, and once Wyatt and Greta were en route to the restaurant, Miranda texted Greta that she had mixed up the time of the reservation by an hour. Wyatt suggested they go for a walk by the Stone Arch Bridge to fill the time, the location of their first date. Except Greta did not dress for a -10 degree outdoor walk, and Wyatt kept insisting they go further and further down the windy bridge that stretches across the Mississippi River. Greta was not happy and kept asking to "just turn around and go back to the car!". Little did she know Wyatt had planned to have Miranda and Connor photograph the special moment. After arriving at the perfect spot on the bridge, Wyatt stopped and got on one knee to ask Greta to marry him. After a tearful and joyous yes, and removing the mittens to put on the ring, they all ran back to the car and spent the night celebrating with more of their closest friends.
