Frequently Asked Questions

Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

The dress code for the event is classic cocktail attire! Gentlemen should wear suits or sportcoats, and ladies should wear a cocktail dress or similar.

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

In short - no! If weather permits, the ceremony site is a pleasant 15-minute walk across the National Mall from the reception site. Alternatively, we recommend using Uber, Lyft, or a "red top" taxi cab. The closest drop-off point is the handicapped parking lot for the World War II Memorial. Valet parking at the hotel is $35 for the evening. The greatest gift you can give us is your own safety, so please do not drink and drive! Any member of the bridal party would be happy to make sure you have a safe ride home.

Question

Do you have any hotel recommendations?

Answer

We have a hotel block at the W Washington, including a preferred rate for our guests (linked under the "Travel" section of this page). Please note: the link to the block rate will take you to a page to reserve a king bed room. If you require a room with two double beds, please forward your reservation number and name to avoconnors2018@gmail.com so we can communicate this to our coordinator, limited to hotel availability. There are many other hotels in the area as well as across DC and close suburb of Arlington, but if you are leaving the area please be aware of possible long travel times in the city, including those caused by our Washington Nationals, who are playing at home that weekend. The DMV is also rich in Airbnbs if that is your preference!

Question

I have a food allergy, can I make a special request?

Answer

Please contact us before August 14 if you have food allergies you need accommodated to allow us time to alert the venue and catering staff. There will be dairy-free and vegetarian options available as part of the menu.

Question

Can I take pictures and/or post photos of your wedding on social media?

Answer

We're so excited for you to share our day with us! Please refrain from using your cell phone during the ceremony to allow our photographer to capture this important and special event. We promise to share the photos after! Feel free to post photos before the ceremony or during the reception, and make sure to include our hashtag!

Question

Where are you registered?

Answer

Your presence at our wedding is enough! But since you asekd, check out the “Registry” tab!

Question

Is there someone I can contact if I have any other questions about the wedding?

Answer

You can contact the Matron of Honor (Gina Tiwari) or Maid of Honor (Katie Derkits).

Question

What will the weather be like at this time of year?

Answer

Your guess is as good as ours! We're hoping for a cool, breezy day in the low 70s, but late DC summer could bring heat, humidity, rain, or cold temperatures. We recommend keeping an eye on the weather as the day approaches to ensure you're comfortable - and to bring an umbrella, just in case.

Question

Will the ceremony and reception be indoors or outdoors?

Answer

The ceremony will take place outdoors and the reception will be indoors, with the cocktail hour having some space available on the hotel's outdoor terrace overlooking DC's famous monuments and the White House.
