Although Sarah and Dustin first met in 2013, it wasn't until several years later that they reconnected. It was October 28, 2017, during their hometown's annual Halloween Pub Crawl event. Dustin was standing outside in the patio area of a local bar when Sarah walked in after a long night at work. She was dressed as Wednesday Addams, and Dustin was dressed as a viking (although he had already stopped at home to drop off his homemade dragon!). When Sarah entered the patio area, she immediately saw Dustin. He had grown out his mohawk, and had it french braided to go with his costume. Sarah had to go talk to him just to pick on his hair! They hadn't seen each other in over a year, but it was as if they had just seen each other yesterday. A few days later they went on their first date at Nail Creek Brewery in Utica, New York, and the rest is history!
Always on the same page, Sarah and Dustin both knew they wanted to get married, and shortly after New Year's they both decided they were going to propose! Sarah met with a local jeweler in secret, and picked out the perfect ring for Dustin. Then, they decided to pick out Sarah's ring together, and took a day trip to Utica to find her perfect ring. One week later, at that same local bar where they found each other on Halloween weekend two years prior, with Sarah sitting on top of a picnic table, Dustin got down on one knee and proposed! Or at least he tried! It had rained all day, so rather than kneel in the mud, he put his knee on the picnic table bench. They both say it still counts! It was a perfect moment and they wouldn't change it for the world! Several months later, in the throes of a national lockdown, Sarah was finally able to order Dustin's ring. But, it arrived early, and was waiting on their doorstep when they got home from a night with family. Unsure how to keep what was in the package a secret, Sarah decided why not? I'll just propose now! So, in a much more simple gesture, Sarah got down on one knee in the apartment they shared and proposed back to Dustin!
