The second line has a deep rich history in New Orleans. When performed during weddings, it signifies the beginning of the new life for the Bride and Groom. A second line has two parts. The “first line” is the band and the honored guests, the Bride and Groom. The newly married couple wave their marriage umbrellas. The second line follows the bride and groom dancing and parading to lively music while waving handkerchiefs, dancing along with the brass band and celebrating their new life together. This is a very unique New Orleans wedding tradition to “let the good times roll” or “laissez les bon temps roulez!”
