Question

What should I expect at a Quaker-style ceremony?

Answer

The ceremony, while not religious in nature, will be based on a Quaker meeting for worship - also the format adopted for Quaker weddings. Lisa grew up going to Quaker school and attending weekly meeting for worship. There is no altar, no aisle, no wedding party and no one particular person 'marrying' the couple. Everyone present takes on that role. Seating is set up in a circular formation, and guests and the couple can sit anywhere they'd like. There will be a facilitator introducing the ceremony. From there, all guests are welcome to stand and speak - as long as they feel it benefits the gathering, and comes from a place of thoughtful reflection. Many times during weddings, this takes the form of well-wishes for the couple, stories about the couple, personal stories about marriage and advice, etc. But, you can truly share whatever you'd like! The facilitator will end the ceremony and the couple will sign their marriage license, and invite others present to sign as well.

Question

Where can I learn more about Quaker meeting for worship?

Answer

Wikipedia has a decent description of meeting for worship https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meeting_for_worship You can check out the Society of Friends website http://www.quaker.org/ Lisa's school website has some information about Quakerism as well https://www.westtown.edu/page.cfm?p=514 If you're REALLY curious, look up a local Quaker meeting and attend a meeting for worship!

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

Hopefully perfect considering the outdoor Welcome Party and Ceremony, but in the mountains, the weather is very hard to predict. During the day, temperatures don't usually get higher than 70's and the sun can be intense. Evenings are generally much cooler. Often there will be a short afternoon storm, so there's a chance that will happen during ceremony time. Usually, you can just wait a half hour, and it's beautiful again!

Question

What is the altitude of the wedding location and how will that effect me?

Answer

We will be at about 8,700 ft. Altitude sickness can take the form of headaches, nausea, dizziness and fatigue. All of this has to do with getting less oxygen in your system. To prevent this, make sure to drink plenty of water and get plenty of sleep, and don't overdo exercise and alcohol. We'd also suggest staying in the Denver area for a night before coming up to the mountains, this will help your body adjust. Denver is at about 5,000 ft. If you are really having trouble, you can rent a tank of oxygen and a mask to use while in Tabernash. http://www.oxygentoyou.net/
