Drew decided to tag along with his bffs, Jake and Sarah to their favorite local coffee stop before catching the premier of The Force Awakens two years ago. Conveniently, their favorite coffee stop at that point was Bindle Coffee, the shop that Ella had been working at for a few months. It was a Saturday - bright, busy, high of 46 degrees. When he walked inside he was floored. Later, he would ask Jake and Sarah, "Who was that ANGEL behind the bar?!" (for reals) but right then he just ordered a pour-over, a sure way to convey to said angel that he took his coffee very seriously. Three months later, they spent an entire day in Boulder together at a Patagonia Worn Wear event - and have been together almost every day since. Like PB+J!
Drew has always had an intense affinity for, among other things (like latin dancing), thorough research. He must have spent upwards of forty hours (maybe more, he doesn't know) hunting down the perfect promise keeper to slip onto Ella's left-hand ring finger: a stunningly magnificent, simple rose gold band with a perfect morganite stone (emerald cut, if you please) atop it. Ella, on the other hand, has the unique ability to sniff out a surprise right before it's presented to her. The stakes were high for this surprise. Confidentiality was king in the Johnston household for several stressful days while details were ironed out, top-secret family meetings were held, GPS coordinates were relayed, and picnics were packed. And much to everybody's delight, it wasn't until Drew ripped off his shirt during a new FGL song on the way up to a casual hike in Rocky Mountain National Park that Ella briefly questioned to herself why he was acting a little stranger than normal... They hiked past the myriad of visitors, past piles of mushrooms and ferns, up the winding 2 mile trail to a stunning azure lake surrounded by massive moss-covered boulders and evergreen trees. When they reached the lake, Drew claimed that he'd had Indian food the night before which was making his stomach upset - but he was just "tired and sort of peaceful" when questioned (?!)...On a boulder by the water, he pulled out the first two courses - a peach, a rose-flavored kombucha, homemade bruschetta. Lots and lots of bruschetta. And for dessert, with Ella's eyes closed, Drew knelt and popped open a tiny black velvet box - the perfect promise keeper. "Ella Kathryne Johnston, will you spend the rest of your life with me?" he half-said, half-cried. And Ella didn't even say yes, according to her brothers, Jason Menon, and future sister (who were sneakily taking pictures)!!! Instead, she just sputtered, "Are you serious?" over and over again. Lots and lots of tears. And then, champagne!!! He was, indeed, serious.
Come celebrate with us! We are so excited about having all of our favorite people in one place to witness and participate in our most special day!! Hope to see you on June 30!
