We met at a Sock Hop Social Dance at the Winona Athletic Club. This is a monthly Ballroom/Swing Social Dance that both of our college’s ballroom dance clubs frequented. I saw Peter standing alone, and I asked him if he wanted to swing dance. We danced several dances that night and hit it off. We friended each other on Facebook, and we kept in touch.
Peter and I became close friends after the Sock Hop and kept in touch when I studied abroad in Spain. When I got back, we hung out over dances, bonfires, and lord of the rings. When I graduated from college in May of 2019, we went skydiving for the first time, together.
We spent a lot of time together in the summer of 2019 and decided to start dating on August 28th. We went on many adventures together as a couple, including visiting our relatives in Illinois, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Nebraska, and Alabama, biking a 60 mile trail, going camping, visiting Nashville, and of course, swing dancing every weekend.
In the Spring of 2020, Peter got accepted to the American College of the Building Arts in Charleston, SC. We began our long distance relationship in August. Since then, we’ve never gone a day without calling each other, and we continued to visit each other and find creative ways to have date nights over video chat.
I visited Peter in Charleston for the Valentines Day Weekend. After Sunday Mass, Peter took me to a gazebo in our favorite park where we like to go to dance. We danced for a while, and at the end of the last dance, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife, and I said yes! We celebrated by taking pictures on the beach and visiting Kominskys, my favorite place downtown.
