Puembo is close to 8,000 feet above sea level. We recommend taking a day or two to acclimate if you are coming from sea level. Remember to stay hydrated and to pace yourself physically and with alcohol consumption if you have not yet acclimated to the elevation change. Altitude sickness symptoms may include headache, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, fatigue, malaise, trouble sleeping, dizziness or lightheadedness. Some people may experience different symptoms and they should improve over time. Talk to your doctor about your travel plans to find out more as they may suggest some medication that might help with symptoms. Also beware of the higher UV radiation exposure at such a high elevation and to apply sunscreen as needed.
