The Kal-Haven trail is a beautiful 33-mile long trail resting on an abandoned railroad bed constructed in 1871. It connects South Haven, on the shore of Lake Michigan about a half an hour from Benton Harbor, to Kalamazoo. It's great for walking, biking, and even horseback riding on certain stretches.
Michigan is known for having some of the most scenic roads to travel in the fall when the leaves have changed colors. A great route for a beautiful drive starts by taking I-196 north. I just learned this is part of a byway called the West Michigan Pike, which has its own theme song and video (!!!). Check it out using the "View" link below. If you head in this direction, consider checking out some of the cute beach towns along the way—South Haven, Holland, and Saugatuck are a few of my favorites.
