Avika and Dan met October 7, 2015 on the first day of work and became extremely close friends helping each other through the early stages of adulthood and adjusting to NYC life. After 5 years of living in Manhattan, Avika moved to Brooklyn and convinced Dan to make the same move. Little did she know, he'd move into an apartment on the same block! After a big ski trip with friends in 2022, having spent one afternoon navigating the mountain together, Avika began to notice her feelings. And throughout the next year, Dan began to realize his, especially during a trip to Paris when he "wished she was there with him." As the year went on, they continued to grow even closer all while dancing around the idea of something more... On Avika's 30th birthday, the couple finally came together. Maybe it was the oysters, maybe it was the alcohol, maybe it was the karaoke... but whatever it was, the foundation of friendship finally gave way to a deep, founded, loving and trusted relationship. Over 2+ years of dating, the two have made Brooklyn their cozy home - sharing an apartment building with close friends and a neighborhood, borough, and city with many more. Avika's dream of living like a NYC sitcom is the closest it has ever been! Along with Dan's dream of being everyone's favorite neighborhood curmudgeon... Together, Dan and Avika love spending time in Brooklyn with each other, with family and with friends. They love exploring new restaurants together - Avika picks the restaurant and the food and Dan walks away extremely full and satisfied (and often forgetting the name of the place). They take weekly Friday morning walks in Brooklyn Bridge Park. They've played soccer together (Dan having been recruited by Avika to play goalie for two years). They love to snowboard and share a love for exploring the world, having been to Japan, Costa Rica, Italy and all around the US together. They love a dance floor party or even just a casual time in playing board games or Dark Room (a Shah family favorite). Importantly, they love doing many of these things with YOU. As they enter a new chapter of their lives together, they cannot wait to celebrate with you all in October 2026!
