Chris and Alisa met in Tucson, Arizona at a mutual friend's going away party. Chris locked eyes on Alisa as she walked into the room, and went over to see if she was interested in playing Guitar Hero. After playing a few 90's songs, Chris learned Alisa was new to Tucson, and asked what she liked to do for fun. Alisa said, "hiking," so Chris told Alisa that they should hike together sometime and asked for her number.
Chris and Alisa made plans to hike on Mount Lemmon. Alisa assumed that the hike would be 4-6 miles at most, but little did she know Chris was more adventurous, and took her on a 10 mile hike! At the end, exhausted, sore, and out of typical first date questions, they discussed the winter olympics in great detail. Knowing they could make conversation out of anything Chris and Alisa continued to see each other.
Chris and Alisa were inseparable for the first few months after they started dating. It only made sense that once Alisa's lease was up in July of 2010, they would move in together. In April of 2011, they decided to take their relationship to the next level and adopt a cat at the local animal shelter. Jenkins "Bobby" Campbell, a 3 year old mackerel tabby won their hearts and has never left their side since.
In 2012, Alisa was accepted to graduate school in New York City. Chris and Alisa decided to continue dating, taking on the challenge of maintaining a long distance relationship for two years. Chris and Alisa visited each other every 2-3 months and every holiday they could; and found creative ways to date online. Date nights often consisted of making dinner together over Skype, or sharing images from their 30 day photo challenge.
While Alisa was finishing up graduate school in NYC, Chris finished his Masters in Arizona, and applied for jobs all over the country. He accepted a position with a Silicon Valley start-up, and in January of 2014 he would leave Tucson, his home of 30 years. Alisa surprised Chris by traveling in secret to help move Chris and Jenkins to San Jose, California. Alisa finished graduate school later that year, and moved to San Jose to be back with her two loves: Chris and Jenkins. Their family was back together again!
To celebrate their 8 year relationship, Chris and Alisa decided to make a new memory and go backpacking for 3 days in the Santa Cruz Mountains on the Skyline to Sea trail. A 31.5 mile hike could not stop these two love birds as they enjoyed picturesque scenes, redwoods, marathon runners, and cascading waterfalls. As they approached Waddell Beach, the endpoint to their hike, Chris encouraged Alisa to continue walking along the beach shores. As Alisa insisted on turning around, Chris knew the moment had arrived. He got down on one knee and asked Alisa to marry him. Alisa, in shock, began to cry tears of joy, but managed to eventually to say "Yes!" They were engaged!
