Joe moved to Albuquerque, NM, from CA in 2016 for a job at the VA Hospital and was welcomed to his position by Nikki. She was so happy he still accepted his position after informing him that she's handing him the reigns in a week, while she goes on a tour in Honduras for the Army Reserves. Nikki and Joe got to know each other in 2017 after Nikki returned from her Central American R&R hiatus. They found some shared interests and started linking up for hikes in the local area. Suddenly Joe and Nikki found themselves going on adventures. Each enjoyed having someone to go with to events. Nikki suspected there was feelings beyond friendship when Joe drove two hours with her, twice, to pick up two peach trees. He was a perfect gentleman and planted them in her backyard. Eventually it was obvious there was an attraction. Joe gets all the credit for being bold and making the first move. That day was February 13th, which became their anniversary date. The excitement of a new love felt great. Lunches, text messages, long phone calls and wondering what the other person was doing. They both found themselves doing things that weren’t normally in their list of sought after activities so they could be with each other. Joe ran a 5K and took up yoga; Nikki found herself attending events at the local theatre. Everything was more enjoyable with the company of the other. "Shared joy is a double joy; shared sorrow is half a sorrow." — Swedish Proverb In 2018 they dug up the peach trees from Nikki’s back yard in SE ABQ and planted them at their new home, where so many new memories and traditions are shared.
