Theresa (Bao) Pham

Maid of Honor

Say hello to the maid of honor! Theresa also goes by her childhood nickname, “Bao,” given to her when family members couldn’t get over the resemblance of her head to a steamed bun (Bao means bun in Vietnamese and Chinese). Theresa is an environmental consultant, living in Grandville, Michigan, where she is mostly playing Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and playing with the family dog, Mochi. Fun Fact: Theresa and Kenny threw our combined Bach party in March of 2020, when she was too young to go to any bars and clubs. In hindsight, this probably single-handedly spared all 50 of us from what could have been a “Super Spreader Event.” Covid lockdown precautions were implemented the following week.

Kenny Chen

Best Man

Kenny and Charlie have been best friends since middle school. Throughout middle school, high school, and even college, the pair have spent countless of hours playing video games together. Charlie and Kenny were inseparable until college, when Kenny and Charlie left for different universities (UC Berkeley and UC Davis, respectively). Despite the distance, the pair remained extremely close. Kenny loves traveling, and even dragged Charlie to Taiwan. Both Kenny and Charlie continue to do everything together, even their careers. Kenny is also software engineer at Apple and lives in Daly City, CA.

Marissa (Kieu) Pham

Bridesmaid

Marissa is the youngest (and smartest) of the Phamily. Her nickname, “Kieu,” was given to her as a toddler, by Duc's siblings who constantly called her “cute,” which sounds like “Q (Kieu),” when said with a Vietnamese accent. She is a senior in high school and plans to attend the University of Michigan in the fall, majoring in Psychology and Spanish. When she isn’t at school, work, theater, or leading 10 million different clubs, she enjoys jamming out to Olivia Rodrigo, playing with the family dog Mochi (and Kiwi), and bothering her sisters. She also goes by Cubicle, cuticle, Q, Q-Anon, Q-tip, Steve AoKieu, and Q-Bert.

Dominique (Dom) Pham

Groomsman

Dom Pham is Mary's younger brother and the only boy of the Phamily. Dom is Charlie's brother-in-law, impromptu barber/hair stylist, Michigan tour-guide/chauffer, gym trainer, and fashion stylist. Dom constantly makes Charlie laugh and is his main Super Smash Bros rival. In his free time, Dom enjoys going to the home gym (which he built), music festivals/raves, bullying his siblings, and leading the Bagel Empire (Barber and Barbell). Dom lives in Grandville, MI and is currently a data analyst.

Kimberly Huynh

Bridesmaid

Kimberly and Mary aren’t really sure how they met, or why they hit it off so well, but they are sure of their love for each other! The pair met through VSA (somehow), and had an immediate connection. Since meeting in 2016, the pair have consumed copious amounts of alcohol in numerous places, usually crying at the same time. They were given the “Lesbihonest” and shared the “Member of the Year,” awards (in the same year). The pair suffer from PTSD after being forced to put together VSA’s largest event, Culture Show, in two weeks. Nothing brings folks together more than trauma. Kimberly is currently working at UCSF Hospital and lives near Oakland, CA.

Daniel Luther

Groomsman

Daniel is Charlie's younger brother (not twin, despite how much they look alike). Daniel has always had a passion for cars, whether racing them, knowing about its mechanical setup, or style, he never seems to lack any knowledge in this department. Like Charlie, he is soft-spoken, patient, and kind. Daniel grew up in Indiana, where he currently lives and works.

Myranda Love

Bridesmaid

Myranda and Mary also met through their sorority. Their first encounter was sitting with each other in the Dining Commons after noticing that they both were sitting alone at adjacent tables. Myranda helped Mary through countless of horrendous experiences (from undergraduate days and beyond). Myranda invited herself to Mary and Charlie’s courthouse wedding after Mary tried downplaying the occasion (Myranda lived within walking distance to the courthouse), and became the second witness when signing documents. Myranda lives in Sacramento and works in state government.

Duc Pham

Groomsman

Duc is Mary's older cousin, usually misidentified as her older brother. Duc stepped up at the very last minute to fill-in for a groomsman who was unable to make the wedding. Duc and Mary have been close ever since he immigrated to America from Vietnam. The pair have had their fair share of shenanigans, usually involving the other Phamily siblings or cousins. In his free time, Duc enjoys traveling, eating amazing food, going to bars, and bullying his cousins and nieces/nephews. Duc is currently living in Ann Arbor, Michigan and finishing up dental school at the University of Michigan.

Rachel Sun

Bridesmaid

Rachel and Mary met in the 4th grade and instantly became best friends (probably because they were two of the three total Asians in the class at the time). When younger, the pair spent every recess together, spending the frigid winter months building elaborate snow forts. The friendship has endured the most testing periods of their life, including middle school, high school, and horrid AP exams. Rachel even saved Mary and Kenny from near disaster after Charlie abandoned the group on top of a Yosemite trail. Rachel is currently a biomedical engineer and lives in Boston, MA. When she is not working, she can be found traversing climbing routes anywhere in the world.

Tommy Vu

Groomsman

Tommy and Mary have been best friends since birth (probably before too). The pair have experienced life's important milestones together from elementary school to high school graduation, getting their black belts in taekwondo together, endless rounds of tennis, and even grinding Maple Story. Tommy has been in so many parts of Mary's life, that it only makes sense to include him as a groomsman in one of the most important days of her life. Tommy is completing his dental residency in Wichita, KS and is planning to relocate to Ann Arbor, MI in the summer.

Catherine Chen

Bridesmaid

Catherine and Mary (officially) met in a math lecture during freshman year of college. Catherine was sitting behind Mary, who asked if Catherine “was the girl who always shows up late to our Honors Chemistry class.” She was. From that moment on, their lives were never the same. Catherine’s mom even called them soulmates, saying, “ It’s your big heads, that’s what drew you two together.” Catherine has since gotten her life together. She got her PharmD from UC San Francisco, and is currently completing her residency in Seattle. She is still always late to things.

Brandon Simmons

Groomsman

Brandon and Charlie have been close co-workers since 2016 when Charlie first joined Apple. He is a talented engineer, competitive gamer, tennis partner, avid reader, and a blazingly fast typist. Charlie is often inspired by what Brandon is up to whether in creative pursuits or leisure. He is an amazing tea brewer, competitive board game player, and an amazing father Isaak and Sebastian. Brandon is a site reliability engineer at Apple and lives in Elk Grove, CA.

Savannah Love

Bridesmaid

Savannah and Mary met through their sorority, Alpha Chi Omega. They were introduced by Savannah’s identical twin, Myranda! Savannah and Mary share a love for music festivals, food, and mental health advocacy. They shared multiple undergraduate classes together, and Savannah was one of the only people who could consistently study with Mary, who gets very easily distracted. Savannah travels in her free time, and has even been to Vietnam (Mary, who is Vietnamese, has not). Savannah is one of the friends who called Mary out for wanting to ghost Charlie. Savannah lives in Walnut Creek and is currently finishing up her Master’s program in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Ryan Borden

Ryan and Mary have been best friends since fall semester of their freshman year at UC Davis. The pair survived endless hardships throughout their undergraduate career including chronic procrastination, honors chemistry (with Catherine), dense lab reports usually accompanied with all-nighters, overcoming their addiction to the late-night cookies at the Dining Commons, and much more. Ryan even remained friends with Mary after she posted him on the UC Davis Free & For Sale Facebook page, where he officially became known “Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Asian Look-Alike.” Ryan lives and works in Orange County, CA where he is preparing for medical school.

Katja Piscitelli

Bridesmaid

Katja and Mary met during the spring of freshman year after being set up on a sorority “girl date.” The pair knew their friendship was forever when they decided that their first date location would be the Dining Commons. They realized that they were meant to be when they realized that they were both from a midwestern town named, “Grand Rapids.” Katja grew up in Grand Rapids, Minnesota while Mary is from Grand Rapids, Michigan/ Katja is one of the friends who made sure that Mary didn’t ghost Charlie. When she is not at the gym, eating amazing food, or at Disneyland, Katja runs her own private SLP practice and conducts speech therapy sessions with neurodivergent children.

David Dong

Groomsman

David, also known as Dave, met both Mary and Charlie through the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) at UC Davis. Dave is Mary’s “Little Bro,” through VSA’s Anh Chi Em (Brothers and Sisters) program, which pairs new VSA members with older members as a mentorship program. Dave and Mary served on VSA’s officer board together, when he served as Treasurer, a position previously held by Charlie. Charlie, Mary, and Dave shared an apartment together during Mary and Dave’s senior year of undergrad. When the trio spends time together, Charlie usually ends up being Mary and Dave’s babysitter. Dave currently works at Meta and lives in the Bay Area, where he was raised.

Violet Nguyen

Bridesmaid

Violet and Mary met via Facebook when she became Violet’s (then VSA’s secretary) intern. Charlie VSA’s treasurer and drove Mary to VSA’s first officer meeting of the quarter. Mary eventually followed Violet’s footsteps and was her successor for VSA secretary. Violet and Mary remained friends throughout undergrad and beyond. The pair have been to Vegas and countless of music festivals and raves since meeting in 2016. Violet lives in Hawaii is currently completing a Master’s program in behavioral analysis.

Dinesh Jayasanskar

Groomsman

Dinesh is from the Bay Area and met Charlie one day in undergrad while taking a computer science course together. Dinesh has been in many of Charlie’s classes through the years and have even worked together on a few projects. Dinesh currently lives with his family in Morgan Hill and can be found riding his light bikes, gaming online, or leading a technical project at his workplace (Box). He's incredibly smart in his technical field and inspires everyone around him to do better everyday.
