How We Met

It all started with Craigslist in Fall 2016...

Charles' brother Alex, was starting his MBA program at VCU and needed a roommate. Not knowing of any open housing in town, he turned to Craigslist. An ad from two girls looking for a third roommate in the highly sought after fan apartment known as #Parkberry caught Alex's eye. Upon a successful interview with Kathryn and the other girl, Alex successfully secured the room. Charles began visiting Alex on the weekends and sparks began to fly between Kathryn and Charles. Some say it was fate, others say it was convenience. The rest, as they say, is history.

Our Relationship

5.98 years of dating

After hitting it off in Richmond's Fan District, Kathryn and Charles started dating in December of 2016. Over the next few years, Charles and Kathryn had many fun filled adventures surrounded by family and friends. From the historic cities of Northern Europe to the beautiful landscapes of the American West, they have made some great memories. Many weekends you can find them relaxing at home, at Charles' parents' house in Burke, or relaxing on the Lake with Kathryn's family in South Carolina. Kathryn and Charles purchased a home together in Richmond's Museum District and have focused heavily over the past 2 years on raising their beloved Aussie Koko.

The Proposal

Christmas time in the city

With a sixth year dating anniversary approaching, Charles did not want to start another year without committing to marry Kathryn. One evening, Charles fell asleep in front of the Christmas tree, upon awakening, an idea popped into his head to incorporate the tree into the proposal. Shortly thereafter, he nervously called up Mr. Dill to ask for his blessing to propose. Fortunately, Mike was very pleased with the news and enthusiastically assented to the proposal. After securing Mike's approval, Charles planned a dinner date for the following night. Before dinner, Charles tied a string to the engagement ring and placed it on the tree like an ornament. Kathryn and Charles were relaxing in the living room in anticipation of their 7pm reservation at Brenner Pass, when Charles went over to the tree and said "I really like this ornament, where did we get it?" As Charles expected, Kathryn had little interest in the ornament, so she did not acknowledge the question. After a few more minutes, Charles repeated the question, Kathryn finally agreed to check out the "ornament." Charles got down on one knee and Kathryn said "Yes!"
