Flashback to July 2020; I had just moved to Oklahoma for residency. My friend Jewel asked if I would be interested in talking to a guy named Joel, who was finishing up his residency in Dallas. Being in my intern year, I no longer had med school as an excuse for putting dating off so I agreed. Soon after, he reached out and we exchanged a few texts. After some time and prayer, Joel felt like he wasn't getting confirmation from God so we parted amicably. Over the years, his name continued to come up through various aunties but I'd brush it aside, knowing we'd already given it a chance. Flash forward to 2023, I'm meal prepping with my friends and I see a text "Hi Rebecca, this is Joel Chacko. A couple people had brought you up recently..." We decided to give it another chance and the rest is history. We bonded over our "kid-at-heart" personalities, love for Asian food, and fondness for Galveston. We met up for the first time in Houston, and things just clicked. The more we've gotten to know each other, the more we see how God has been orchestrating our story from the beginning. Our relationship is based on a mutual love and respect for each other and unwavering faith in Jesus. Long distance has been challenging but thankfully it's not forever! We look forward to all that God has in store for our lives and hope to honor Him in everything we do.
