Full of FAB hikes! From Mt. Battie with its lookout tower to more ambitious meanders through the hills to Mt. Megunticook, its full of all sorts of rambles for different levels of hike-ability. Jesse grew up hiking "The Back of Battie", a more scrambly/steep climb approach to one of the best views of Penobscot Bay over to Islesboro. Casey has spent most of her time off exploring the rest of the park hiking and running-- her favorite approach is the Back of Battie through to Tablelands and then across to Mt. Megunticook summit-- a little bit of everything along the journey!
Behind the Swan House B&B is the smaller parking lot for a *free* access point to the state park. The approach from the Back of Battie is a bit more aggressive than others-- the last bit of the hike is more of a rock climbing scramble rather than a meander up a trail, but its FUN and the view at the end is worth it, big time.
A great walk and view! If you want a similar panoramic view of the Penobscot Bay without all of the strenuous hiking, this is it! A great spot to bring a picnic and take in the panorama- and the historic house at the top is a marvel of itself! Folks from the city used to come there back in the day to "take in the ocean air" for their health.
A great walk any time of year-- walk the wide carriage road up to the base of Bald Rock, then begin the steps up to the summit. A medium on the strenuous hike scale-- just enough climb to feel like you really earned the view you get at the top! Connects to the rest of the State Park, so if you feel like you want more, we recommend connecting to Cameron Mountain across the carriage road after your descent for the inland view towards Hope, ME.
THE SPOT! In downtown Belfast, you'll find one of the reasons why Casey moved to Maine. Chase's is unlike any other place you've seen-- restaurant & bakery in front, full-blown farmer's market from their family farm in the back. Some of the greatest produce and flowers you'll find in the area. Grab a bouquet, some veg for dinner, a bahn mi for now and head to the commons or harbor for a picnic lunch!
Where it (the marriage journey) began! WE got engaged at Beauchamp on our first swimming day of 2020 in May. Its one of our favorite swim spots-- great views of fancy sailboats, a protected harbor with just enough open ocean vibe to make you feel like a mermaid, and an excellent walk with views of the water the whole way.
One of our favorite takeout spots! Truly authentic Thai food cooked by two of the kindest people you'll meet. Their heart really pours in to the food. We love the rice cakes, tofu & greens and don't be afraid to try the black rice & coconut dessert!
A great spot to sit, stroll and watch the schooners! The library hill is a fabulous spot to take in the whole scene.
The one sand beach in the midcoast. We recommend parking on the street and then heading to the beach to the right of the ferry terminal when you're facing the water: better beach, better swimming, better views of the island in teh distance and the ferry to-and-fro-ing from it!
Have you ever wanted to walk down a granite jetty to a lighthouse, bask in the sun, wave to a ferry motoring by all while enjoying the sea breeze? Here's your chance! its a great little walk, moment to get some fresh air and see the sea, and if you're lucky, some of the local seals will be basking on a rock near the base of the Samoset Resort. You can say hi!
One of our winter enclaves. The Farnsworth is really special-- it houses much of the collection of the various Wyeth family members' works. Think beautiful pencil and charcoal drawings, pastoral paintings, peaceful scenes. You'll move slowly, and then leave with your blood pressure lower and feeling so at ease and peace.
Our routine dog walk! Take in the working waterfront of Belfast as you stroll along the banks of the Penobscot! One of Jesse's friends Sadie has a lobster shack along the way that sells lobster & crab rolls made from the bugs she catches on her lobster boat-- talk about fresh out of the water! If you're looking to walk a bit more, head up Bayview Street and take in one of the more picturesque streets that Belfast has!
Casey helped Cooper with farm work in her spare time her first year moving here, ever since then she's kept in touch because his veg are just-to-good! Cooper's vegetables are 100% organic, his farmstand is fabulous and lucky for you, August is when he has melons. They're practically personally sized and all you need is a spoon to eat em! And if you're lucky, you might be able to score one of Casey's sourdoughs if they're not sold out yet!
If you're looking for a true day of adventure, this is it! Its a hike (comparatively) from the midcoast, but worth it if you plan ahead! Our favorite stops in the park include: - Sand Beach - Precipice - Beehive - The Bubbles - Thunder Hole - Little Hunters Beach - Cadillac Mountain (the hike is worth not driving up, preserve the mountain!)
