Our Elopement

At the beginning of the year Anthony told me what I'd been waiting to hear... "Start looking at rings and let me know what you want". Well my sister, Lani, may have been even more eager than I was. She was ready to start wedding planning! Given our busy schedule, it did make sense to start looking at venues and picking a date. In February we toured our first potential venue. I liked it, but something felt off so we tried another. Again, I was left with the same feeling. I started saying I really just wanted to elope. Lani, getting annoyed with my indecisiveness, made the joke she was just going to have an officiant there when Anthony proposed and we'd just get married on the spot. June rolled around and still no luck, so we scheduled ANOTHER venue tour. Little did I know this tour would fall 3 day before Anthony planned to propose. That Wednesday Lani, my mom and I went to the venue and in that moment I thought I had finally found the one. However, the next day I was back to feeling uneasy. I once again texted my sister saying I really just wanted to elope. Of course, she tried to change my mind, but eventually said "Okay, fine. If you're adamant you want to elope, what if y'all go ahead and get a marriage license. They last a while, so you'll have it to use if you decide that's really what you want to do after y'all get engaged". Little did I know Lani was scheming away. She had called Anthony and told him I was being adamant I wanted to elope so what if they turned the proposal into an elopement. Anthony agreed, so Lani and my mom got to work quickly to do just that. They say they called every pastor they knew trying to find someone to perform the ceremony. Lani had already ordered some flowers for the proposal, so she asked the florist if she could add a bouquet and boutonniere. That Friday, the day before Anthony would be proposing, we went to the courthouse to get our marriage license. Saturday morning we had a delivery for a few of our rental items in Washington. Lani asked if we wanted to get dinner when we went back to get pick up the rentals. That's why I thought nothing of us all getting dressed up. The guys left a few minutes before us to head to the restaurant. I thought Lani took a wrong turn, but as we drove down the street I saw Anthony waiting for me on the steps of a beautiful historic church. After he proposed I heard the photographer ask if the officiant was there yet. I looked at Anthony and said "Officiant?". Anthony said to me "Soooo there's something I didn't tell you, we actually have the option to get married today if you want to?". I said yes and the rest is history!
