While we went to the same university, attended the same church, and served with the same campus ministry, we didn't actually meet until we were about to move overseas to Asia after graduating! Our campus ministry put us on a team together. Neither of us thought the rules of "no dating while overseas" would be a problem. A few months into the year in Asia, we had both taken an interest in one another, but it was "forbidden love" until we arrived back on American soil. I decided it was better to get rid of my feelings so I didn't have to wait 7 more months till the end of the year to find out if they were returned. But David never lost hope. He asked me out the day we finished our year of service and I said I'd give it a shot! My feelings grew back ;) We dated long distance for a year and a half, first from San Luis Obispo to LA, then San Francisco to LA. All that time (plus the time of waiting in Asia) was well worth the wait. I moved to San Francisco and we enjoyed a sweet 6 months of finally being in the same city! Our relationship had grown strong and genuine through continued patience and persistence. We were ready to move on to greater commitment!
A couple weeks before our 2-year dating anniversary, we spent a day together doing some of our favorite things. While we were enjoying a blustery picnic on top of a mountain in Sausalito and chatting about highlights of our time living in San Francisco so far, David said he had something else to share with me... He pulled out a ring and got down on a knee and asked me to marry him. I was shocked and first shouted 'WHAT?' then 'YES!' We look forward to starting out this new season by celebrating with you all what God has done in our lives. See you soon!
